Dear HOGsters,

'Tis that time of year for us to visit Death Valley as we have many years in the past.  Here's the plan for this Fall:

We hook up for breakfast at Mel's Diner near the Folsom HD shop at 8:30 on 10/12 for breakfast, leaving around 9-9:30.

There will be a short stop at the Shell gas station (intersection of Sly Park Rd and Pony Experss Trail) in Pollock Pines around 10:00-10:15 to pick up any Hill Folk who would rather not trek down the hill.

Both nights on the road (10/12 and 10/13) are at the Portal Motel in Lone Pine. The number there is (760) 876-5930. When you call, tell Latka you are with Chuck’s group. Sometimes she gives us a break on the rates.

This year, the day ride goes to Darwin (check out Darwin, Ca. on the web) and the ghost town of Rhyolite, Nevada, where there are spooky remains of a once thriving mining town. Breakfast is at the Ranch House Café in Olancha where we hook with my lifelong friend, Don who will be our guide for the day.

Lunch stop is in Beatty NV. at KC's Outpost, just 6 miles from Rhyolite.  From there it's back to Lone Pine for a "Bark at the Moon" contest :)

Sunday morning, breakfast is at the café across the street from the motel.

Before we leave Lone Pine, we’ll take a ride through Alabama Hills at the base of Mount Whitney (only this time without the U turn) where they filmed all those great Old Western Movies… John Wayne, etc.

From there it's back home. Ride is ~950 miles round trip Ride Rating Closed 3B

There is an alternate route home that includes a third night on the coast in San Simeon.  Sam and Jane will be riding the Kern River Canyon and  crossing the  Central Valley returning home from there on Monday. This is the reverse route of the California Has It All Run that we have done in years past.   The hotel in San Simeon is the Courtesy Inn.  The number is (805) 927-4691
